Hospitalist Program

A hospitalist is the provider who takes care of you while you are staying in the hospital. Working with your own doctor, the hospitalist provides round-the-clock care for you until you leave the hospital. The Southern New Hampshire Medical Center Adult Hospitalist Program is one of the largest hospitalist programs in New Hampshire.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is a hospitalist?
A. Hospitalists are providers who specialize in caring for patients in the hospital. From a patient’s admission through discharge, hospitalists work closely with primary care physicians and specialists to provide coordinated treatment.

Q. What are the benefits?
A. Hospitalists are available in the hospital 24 hours a day. They provide timely bedside visits for patients, communicate regularly with a patient’s primary care provider, follow up on a patient’s tests, and adjust treatment as necessary. When a patient is ready to leave the hospital, a hospitalist will communicate with a primary care physician to discuss further treatment options, help arrange follow-up care, and prescribe necessary medications.
