What is a Hospitalist?

Hospitalists are physicians who specialize in caring for patients in the hospital.  Hospitalists are available in the hospital 24 hours a day.  By focusing on the care of hospitalized patients, a hospitalist can ensure continuity of care from admission through discharge, focusing on a patient's unique, individual needs. Since hospitalists spend all of their work days in the hospital, they can provide timely bedside visits, follow-up on lab results and tests, and adjust treatment as necessary.
