Clinics
Lipid Clinic:
The Lipid Clinic, developed by cardiology and endocrinology specialists, is available to treat adults with lipid (cholesterol or triglyceride) disorders, including those found in patients who have diabetes.
The Lipid Clinic is designed for:
- Patients who need lipid lowering but have not been able to tolerate multiple medications (e.g., more than 1 statin already tried).
- Patients who need lipid lowering, are on statin +/another class of medication and have not reached goal.
- Patients with hypertriglyceridemia, particularly if >600 mg/dl, still high, despite trying fibrates.
- Patients with genetic disorders of hyperlipidemia difficult to treat, such as LDL receptor deficiency.
- Patients with multiple cardiac risk factors where there is uncertainty about what their lipid target goals should be (e.g., patients with metabolic syndrome with diabetes or CAD or other clear reason to get LDL <100).
- Patients 35 years or younger with dyslipidemia.
Dr Wendi Cardeiro of Lahey Cardiology at the Medical Center, Dr. Ellie Chuang, and Dr. Krishna Bhaghayath of Southern New Hampshire Endocrinology will meet with patients to determine an individualized course of action to lower their cholesterol and triglycerides. Pacer/ICD Clinic
Pacemakers and implantable defibrillators (ICD) are battery-powered, complex devices that require fine tuning, individualized to each patient's medical problem. To address these issues, we offer our patients a regular pacemaker and ICD clinic. In this clinic, your device and lead system will be electronically evaluated and optimized for your individual problem. The clinic is run by a physician and an RN. All device interrogations and alterations in device programming are directed by our physicians, allthough we sometimes ask technicians from various pacemakers/ICD companies to assist in evaluation.
Patients with either permanent pacemakers or implantable defibrillators should be seen quarterly at the clinic. Depending on the device, some patients may be able to transmit information from home. The doctor or nurse will let the patient know if this is an option for them. If the device was recently implanted, we ask the patient to come more frequently to insure the device is working optimally. If the device is nearing the end of its battery life or if the patient has experienced any sort of problem with their device, we may also ask the patient to come in more frequently.
Some devices can be monitored from home using the telephone. This type of pacemaker check is called a transtelephonic check. A transtelephonic check will only tell the doctor if the pacemaker is working at its minimal level and if the pacer's battery is intact. If you choose to have your pacemaker checked transtelephonically, you will still need to visit the clinic once yearly.
If you have a pacemaker or ICD which needs to be checked, please call our office at (603) 577-2039 to arrange an appointment.
