Lymphedema Management >>
Lymphedema is the abnormal swelling of a part of the body, most often an extremity - an arm, hand, leg or foot.. An accumulation of protein-rich fluid in the tissues occurs as a result of an insufficiency of the lymphatic system, which usually works to drain this fluid away. The condition can result from a congenital abnormality, develop after surgery, or result from a cancerous tumor or after treatment for a tumor (surgery, radiation).
Our Lymphedema Program, now a National Lymphedema Network(NLN) affiliated site and the only facility in New Hampshire to meet the requirements for this recognition, provides patients with complete Decongestive Therapy services (manual lymphatic drainage, compression bandaging/garments, lymphedema exercises, precaution/prevention education) by certified lymphatic therapists. We offer flexible day and evening treatment hours, emergency weekend assistance, and aquatic lymphedema services.
The NLN is the foremost organization in the US dedicated to promoting and supporting the availability of quality medical treatment for all individuals at risk for or affected by lymphedema. It provides information on lymphedema to the medical community and the public at large via quarterly newsletters and resource guide listings, a Web site, and caller referrals to appropriate treatment facilities.
Our inclusion as a NLN affiliated Treatment Center reflects the high level of quality care we are dedicated to providing to the community and our commitment to increase awareness of this disease. Additionally, it assures our patients that they are receiving the most current and effective treatments available from knowledgeable and skilled clinicians.
