Avian Flu >>
Presently, there are no reported cases of avian flu (H5N1) in the United States. Avian flu, a strain of flu found in bird populations primarily in Europe and Asia, is not being transmitted from person to person. If you are experiencing flu like symptoms, such as fever, sore throat and muscle aches, you should assume it is non-avian flu and contact your primary care provider and follow common sense guidelines. Stay home if you are sick, drink lots of fluids and wash your hands frequently.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is monitoring the Avian flu situation very closely and if at any time an occurrence avian flu is reported in the United States, the City of Nashua along with state and regional agencies as well as area hospitals and emergency service personnel have an all-hazards emergency management plan in place ready for implementation if necessary.
