Making a Telephone Call

Each patient at the hospital's Main Campus has a bedside telephone. Your family and friends can call you directly. The telephone number assigned to your room will be given to you. Incoming calls received after 10 pm will be directed to the nurses' station.

  • Local calls are free of charge and can be made from your room by dialing 9 + the number.
  • Long distance calls can be made by using a calling card or by calling collect. For long distance or collect calls, dial 9 + 0 for operator assistance.

Public telephones are available for patients at the Inpatient Behavioral Health Unit at The Medical Center’s West Campus.

Cellular Phones

We understand that cellular phones and walkie-talkies are important ways to stay in touch with family and friends. However, for the safety and comfort of our patients:

  • Cellular phone and walkie-talkie use is not permitted in some patient care areas.
  • Cellular phones or walkie-talkies may not be used or carried with the power turned on near electronic medical devices being used in patient care.
  • Turn power off within three feet of electronic medical equipment.
  • The use of cellular phones and walkie-talkies by patients and visitors is not permitted at the bedside in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Emergency Department (ED), or Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU).
  • We encourage a quiet environment to make our patients comfortable. Please be considerate of our patients by speaking quietly when talking on the phone, in hallways, or outside patient rooms. There are lounge areas for visitors on each patient floor and in the main lobby.

Television

Each patient at the Main Campus has a bedside color television with cable channels available free of charge.

Please be considerate of other patients by playing your television softly and by turning off your set at bedtime. If you would like TV earphones, please ask your nurse.

Patient Education Channel 56 is the hospital’s patient education channel that features our providers and health education topics. The list of programs is attached to the television in your room.

Relaxation Channel 57 is the hospital’s relaxation channel that features beautiful music, scenery, inspirational messages, and humor, and offers techniques to help you reduce stress.

Televisions are available in the common areas for patients at the Inpatient Behavioral Health Unit at The Medical Center’s West Campus.
