If you have an overactive thyroid gland or have been diagnosed with thyroid cancer, your endocrinologist may prescribe radioactive iodine as part of your overall treatement. Prior to this treatment you will be asked to follow a diet low in iodine. Your endocrinologist will review this with you during your office visit. For a copy of a low-iodine diet click here.
A fine needle aspiration biopsy of the thyroid refers to using a needle to remove a small sample of tissue from your thyroid gland.
