WHEN SHOULD I COME IN FOR MY FIRST OBSTETRICAL APPOINTMENT?
Your first appointment should be scheduled between six (6) and eight (8) weeks of pregnancy. This is scheduled with our nurse practitioner, Karen Flaherty, ARNP. If you have problems before your first visit, just call our office and leave a message. One of our nurses will return your call the same day.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AT MY FIRST OBSTETRICAL APPOINTMENT?
The first obstetrical appointment is a 30 minute visit which is scheduled with our nurse practitioner. She will give you a folder filled with important information regarding pregnancy: various classes that are offered through the Medical Center, what medications you can safely take, explanations on various testing that is offered, and exercise classes you might want to attend.
You should also expect to have a Pap smear performed (unless you had one within 6 months of your visit). Also, feel free to bring along any questions you might have.
DOES YOUR OFFICE OFFER 3D/4D ULTRASOUND?
Yes, we offer the most up-to-date ultrasound techniques including early risk assessment scans and 3D/4D. We also offer a "keepsake" 3D/4D ultrasound that is not considered medically necessary by the insurance companies, but is available to you if you desire.
CAN THE ULTRASOUND TELL IF I'M HAVING A BOY OR A GIRL?
There is no exact procedure that can predict with 100% accuracy the sex of your baby. That being said, an ultrasound (called a fetal survey) is performed around 19-20 weeks of pregnancy. Many times our technologists can tell the sex of your baby fairly accurately.
WILL ONE OF THE PHYSICIANS FROM WOMEN'S CARE DELIVER MY BABY?
Dr Maynard, Dr Martinez, and Dr Witt share call with three (3) other OB/GYN physicians affiliated with the hospital. Any of the six (6) of them may deliver your baby.
HOW CAN I MEET THE OTHER PHYSICIANS WHO MIGHT DELIVER MY BABY?
Every other month, on a Tuesday evening from 5pm to 6 pm, we offer a "Meet the Doc" night. This is held on the ground floor of this building. We try to have all of the covering physicians at each sessio so that you can meet each of them. They will give you much useful information on many topics, including signs of labor, pain medications, hospital procedures, etc. Any and all questions will be answered.
